Home Decor Fabric choices

Natural fabrics:

• Cotton is versatile and known as a breathable fabric.The use of cotton in home decor gives your home a very fresh, casual and summery feel. It is recommended for slip covers or as an inexpensive curtain option for a guest bedroom or casual living area.
• Linen is beautiful but wrinkles very easily. If linen is chosen, be prepared to accept the charm and nature of the material. Linen is ideal as a casual table runner on a summer afternoon. It adds unstructured elegance to any home décor.
• Silk comes in a range of weights and weaves. Silk adds elegance to any windowdressing and is long wearing provided it is lined to protect it from sun exposure. Faux silk made of 100% polyester is often used to get the silk look at a more affordable cost.

Synthetic fabrics:

• Rayon is a fabric that looks great as a curtain but does not react well to humidity as it can deform its shape.
• Acrylic is a resistant fabric that is often blended with natural fabrics to make them more durable.
• Polyester is a very versatile home décor fabric, often used for curtains, cushions and tablecloths.

Caring for Home Decor fabrics

As a general rule, unless the label says otherwise, it is best to dry clean home decor fabrics.
• 100% Cotton – Cotton fabrics tend to shrink and wrinkle when washed. Printed patterns can sometimes fade over time.
• 100% Polyester – As a general rule polyester fabrics are easily washable with little to no shrinkage or wrinkles. Regardless, unless specifically labeled as washable, it is best to wash a test piece first. It is also possible that if the fabric has sheen to it, that sheen may lessen slightly after washing.
• Poly/cotton blends – Most polyester-cotton blends can be washed, however a little shrinkage and wrinkling may occur depending on the amount of cotton content. If the fabrics has sheen to it, it too may be affected as regular polyester.
• 100% Silk – Silk fabrics should either be dry-cleaned or hand-washed and then air-dried.
